help create a habitat:

“animal-centered design”

Hand drawing of goat houses showing animal structure, seasonal considerations with sun and warmth, and internal and external environmental enrichment needs.

We will be using the “Animal-Centered Design” framework established by Piedmont Farm Animal Refuge in NC.

Steps we are taking before we bring animals to the farm:

  1. Research - Consider the species’ ancestry, what makes them feel safe, and how they would typically spend their time if in the wild.

  2. Site Plan - Map out each species’ home, particular conditions on the property in each location, considering seasonal changes.

  3. Build! - Recruit lots of volunteers to help us build these homes for our residents.

  4. Bring animals to the farm & adapt - Based on our observations of the animals in their homes, we may make modifications to ensure maximum comfort, safety, and flourishing.

we can’t wait to welcome the animal residents to their permanent home!
